[:en]Vaccine passports, negative Covid 19 tests, border controls, limited flights, social distancing, masks… Can we expect to travel again with relative ease any time soon…?
Here in Spain, the Spanish Ministry of Tourism is optimistic that with the vaccination programmes for covid19 in place in many countries, Spain will be able to ease travel restrictions, open borders and receive travellers sometime in March. With 15% of Málaga’s economy dependent on tourism, bringing visitors back represents the lifeblood of the community. With the number of cases falling across the Costa del Sol, and restrictions on citizens easing, it seems we can exercise some cautious optimism.
However, reactivating safe travel around the world will be no mean feat. With differing rules and restrictions regarding travel arrangements, quarantine and self-isolation, and doubts about the validity of various covid19 testing systems, coordinating the return to the seas, skies and roads is a major headache, not only for travellers, but also for airlines and authorities.
News of “Travel Pass”, a new app being developed comes as music to the ears of the international travel industry. An initiative of the IATA – International Air Transport Association, the app coordinates information from 120 countries and 290 companies in the travel sector, in an attempt to streamline reliable information for the airlines, travellers, border controls and testing laboratories to allow safe travel to resume.
The app will help travellers access standardized information, manage their documentation, details of testing and vaccination certificates – incorporating validity checks.
This ingenious app could be a vital key to kickstarting safe travel following the year-long health crisis that grounded the travel and aviation industries worldwide. What is more, the app is free for travellers to utilize – it will be the governments, airlines and travel industry corporations that foot the bill. This is all excellent news for residents and visitors to the Costa del Sol.
